Google maps have just added public transport directions to their service on desktop and mobile devices.
Public transport directions for London Underground, buses, trams and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) are all covered by the new feature.
While on any Google Maps page, click the ‘Get directions’ tab, then enter your location and destination points, and then click on the ‘By public transport’ button. The map will then calculate the best way to get there by Tube and / or bus, and suggest three optional routes.
You can also access the feature on your mobile --Android, iOS and BlackBerry mobile platforms are all supported. Google maps will use your GPS location when calculating the best route. There is also a Transit Navigation beta feature which will alert you when it’s time to change bus or train or when you have arrived at your destination.
Google has credited Transport for London (TfL) for making this feature possible as they made the information available through the London Datastore.
