If you’ve ever stared at a calendar and wondered why America writes dates differently, you truly haven’t lived! We thought we’d try and get to the bottom of why the United States has a MM/DD/YYYY order of calendar.

It displays (quite stunningly, by the way!) 195 countries on this wonderful planet of ours. 193 of which are recognised by the United Nations. How many of these, do you reckon, would join America in using its singular form of adding the month first?
The answer is 0. The United States is surprisingly alone in the world to exclusively use MM/DD/YYYY as a format. A vast majority of the world including the UK uses Date first. There are some exceptions, where countries use both of course but given a choice, no other country has adopted this method of writing. Which prompted us to explore it a little further and see what possible advantage might exist with it, and ascertain which part of the world, has got it ‘right’.
