The Boundary Commission yesterday published proposals to cut the number of English constituencies from 533 to 502. Forecasters say Labour and the Lib Dems are set to make heavy losses due to the cuts.
The changes to constituency boundaries will also see the number of MPs cut from 650 to 600.
Labour is likely to suffer the biggest losses after changes to the political map, but proportionately the Liberal Democrats look set to be hit hardest.
Nick Clegg, Vince Cable, Chris Huhne and Tim Farron are among senior Liberal Democrats who will see their seats dramatically change for the worse. The Twickenham constituency held by Mr Cable, the Business Secretary, since 1997, will be split, pathing the way for a showdown with Tory Zac Goldsmith.
The Mirror says the Lib Dems face an election wipeout under boundary changes announced today.
Leader Ed Miliband said: ‘We have serious concerns about the Government’s decision. It’s gerrymandering.’ David Cameron’s Witney seat in Oxfordshire is unchanged.
